Honoring the Legacy of the Wilderness Act of 1964
As we welcome the new year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the profound impact of the Wilderness Act of 1964. This groundbreaking legislation established the National Wilderness Preservation System, protecting over 111 million acres of pristine wilderness across the United States. These lands were set aside to preserve their natural beauty, ecological importance, and cultural significance for future generations.
Looking Forward in 2025
The Wilderness Act highlights the importance of preserving these wild spaces—where nature thrives freely, offering us solitude and a deep connection to the world around us. In the spirit of stewardship, we are excited to announce our first volunteer event of the year: Shining Rock Wilderness Little East Fork Trail Stewardship Day on Saturday, February 8, 2025. Join us as we come together to clear trails, repair damage, and care for one of the most beautiful areas in the region. Volunteers of all experience levels are welcome—every set of hands makes a difference!
