Kentucky is home to two Wilderness areas on the Daniel Boone National Forest —Clifty and Beaver Creek. Together, they are 17,187 acres of protected national forest.
Kentucky is one of the newer places in our bootprint. We formally began working with the Daniel Boone National Forest in the two wilderness areas on the forest in 2018. Currently, we have a wilderness specialist collecting recreation data and completing wilderness character baseline assessment reports, building off our 2018 work, when we wrote wilderness character narratives for Clifty and Beaver Creek Wilderness Areas.
Our roving field crew also spent time in the Daniel Boone in 2020, addressing priority projects that were not able to be completed in the spring and summer due to COVID-19 delays. They removed blowdowns, brush and repaired trails in both wilderness areas.
