Naval Academy Crew Volunteer Project 1: Piney Ridge Trail 6/8/19

  Join the SAWS Naval Academy Crew and the Golden Horseshoe Chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen of America on Saturday June 8th to help reestablish the Piney Ridge Trail in James River Face Wilderness in Virginia.  Spend the day working with the midshipmen and join us for a barbecue afterward. Join the midshipmen from the Naval Academy on August 3 & 4 in Raccoon Branch Wilderness near Marion, Virginia. We will dismantle and haul-out an old fire grate, picnic table, and privy structure! For this two-day project, we’ll be partnering with the Backcountry Horseman of America and we’d love your help on either day! Women’s Work Day

Come out for a day's work in the woods to improve the Appalachian Trail from Lemon Gap to Kale Gap. This special section of the A.T. includes the historic Walnut Mountain Shelter. If we have enough volunteers, we may extend our zone of work to Bluff Mountain, too! We'll be spending some dedicated efforts to cut annual growth. Saturday, September 28th, we will be celebrating National Public Lands Day with another trail work day. Our plans include tread work and small tree clearing in Ellicott Rock Wilderness. We may hike 2-4 miles this day. We will provide safety equipment and tools. In order to participate, everyone will need to have gloves, glasses, hard hat, long pants and sturdy boots. National Public Lands Day- Linville Gorge Wilderness

Come out and help celebrate National Public Lands Day on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards is partnering with Carolina Climbing Coalition, Wildsouth, and the USFS for work on the Shortoff Trail located in the Linville Gorge Wilderness.
