Women’s Work Day

August 3 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Come out for a day’s work in the woods to improve the Appalachian Trail from Lemon Gap to Kale Gap. This special section of the A.T. includes the historic Walnut Mountain Shelter. If we have enough volunteers, we may extend our zone of work to Bluff Mountain, too!

We’ll be spending some dedicated efforts to cut annual growth.

This work day is the chance for new volunteers as well as those with experience to be part of something bigger – keeping the A.T. open. This doesn’t happen without volunteer hands! Work on Saturday, August 3 will be performing the essential maintenance for the Trail, including drain clearing, brush cutting, busting up fire rings, tread improvements, and, of course, a rewarding experience making new friends.

This event is hosted by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and Southern Appalachian Wilderness Stewards. All training and tools will be provided. Wear long pants, sturdy boots. Bring work gloves, lunch, personal snacks, a rain jacket, sun protection, and plenty of water.

For volunteers participating from Asheville, North Carolina, a carpool will leave at 9 a.m. and return by 4:00 p.m.

Advance registration is necessary. Please register before July 31, so we can be sure to have adequate tools and equipment.
