National Public Lands Day and Women’s Work Day- Appalachian Trail

Join a Wild East Women’s Work Day near Stecoah Gap on Saturday, Sept. 28. Work includes essential trail maintenance functions, like brushing annual growth, cleaning drains, and digging new or enhancing existing reverse grade dips. Work we do this day will help the Trail be resilient to the winter rains.

The work party will hike approximately 4 miles round trip for this activity.

Project work begins work begins at 1:30 p.m. beginning at Stecoah Gap and will wrap up around 5 p.m. Tools and training will be provided. Participants should wear long pants and sturdy boots. Plan to pack plenty of water (2-3 liters), lunch, rain gear, sun protection, and layers.

Participants are encouraged to carpool to the trailhead.

This event is in partnership with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Smoky Mountains Hiking Club and REI-Asheville.

Anyone is welcome to attend. Advanced registration is necessary before Sept. 25 through the ATC website.
